Neurodiversity-Aware Mediation
Accessible Mediation: Fair, Inclusive & Effective.
Neurodiversity-aware mediation ensures that everyone can participate fully and fairly. We work in close collaboration with The Brain Charity to ensure that our practices accommodate neurodivergent people, informed by lived experience and professional insight.
We are proud to include a growing number of accredited neurodiversity-aware mediators on our panel, who are trained to adapt processes through pace, communication style, sensory considerations, and other adjustments, so that all participants can engage confidently, understand the discussion, and work toward lasting outcomes.

Understanding Neurodiversity in Mediation
Neurodiversity recognises that people think, communicate, and process information in different ways. This includes people who are autistic, have ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, or
other cognitive differences.
In a mediation setting, these differences can affect:
-
How someone communicates
-
How quickly they process information
-
How they respond emotionally under pressure
-
Sensitivity to noise, lighting, or screen use
-
Confidence in formal or high-stakes discussions
Traditional mediation does not always take these differences into account. When that happens, some people may feel disadvantaged, misunderstood, or unable to fully engage in
the process. At Mediator Locator, we believe mediation should work well for everyone involved.
What Is Neurodiversity-Aware Mediation?
Neurodiversity-aware mediation means adapting the mediation process so that all participants can take part fully and fairly.
This might include:
-
Adjusting the pace or style of communication
-
Sharing information in advance or in alternative formats
-
Building in breaks or using shorter sessions
-
Being mindful of sensory factors such as noise, lighting, or screen time
-
Spotting and addressing misunderstandings or power imbalances early
These adjustments do not change the purpose or integrity of mediation. They remove unnecessary barriers, making it easier for people to understand the process, participate
confidently, and reach informed and lasting outcomes.
